They Might Be Giants
August 23rd 2006 09:38
This is a farcial, quirky film about a modern-day ex-juror (Scott) who thinks he is Sherlock Holmes. Assisted by psychologist Dr. Watson (Woodward), and a whole host of disgruntled mentally ill characters, he investigates seemingly random unconnected ‘clues’ across the landscape of New York.
It's a little uneven at times but unique in its winsome mix of the funny and tragic, and includes a moving climactic tracking down of Moriarty via a deserted grocery store. George C. Scott does what Oscar-winning actors do when given great characters such as these, and Woodward is equally endearing, if not more so, as the woman who wants to help him.
If you're looking for something a bit different or want to see some great George C. Scott acting than this is a film worth watching.
TRIVIA: The title is a reference to ‘Don Quixote’.
A young F. Murray Abraham appears as a theatre-usher.

They Might be Giants is a tremendous twist of the Sherlock Holmes mythology. This film really touched me. Its all about living the life you want without hurting others. Hopefully inspiring them.
Another fun rework on the Holmes & Watson relationship is Thom EberHardt's WithOut A Clue. Starring Micheael Caine and Ben Kingsley. Its an entertaining comedy full of wit and fun.

Without a Clue is great. Ben kingsley is so underrated. You seen him in Sexy Beast? So good.
