Repo Man

Repo Man is a crazy, culty kind of movie that tends to get people all excitable - if only because it's soundtrack is so punk-rocking. I bought this video, expecting something cool and highly rewatchable after reading various articles pumping it up and hearing dudes say it was rad. Let's just say I wasn't impressed!
It's not exactly shit, I just found the whole thing fairly tedious. Basically, it's about this guy - Otto (Emilio Estevez) - a young punkster who has a bad night and decides to become a repo man. From here he gets wrapped up in this crazy, wacky world of repo man syndicates and is partnered by Bud (the always dependable Harry Dean Stanton). Throw in some really bad amateur acting from the other young punks, some kind of alien nuclear weapon, a mad scientist, and all sorts of other disjointed and borderline-relevant subplots and characters, and you have the makings of a 'cult' film.
It's not boring, and I didn't feel the need to throw my remote at the TV screen, so it's not quite that bad. I just found it all kind of pointless. Most of the film's notoriety comes from it's high cred soundtrack full of contemporary 80s skate-punk and hardcore bands... unfortunately the film's other punk elements - the poor acting and cut n paste plot - didn't really do much for me. The older cast members (the repo men - made up of various underrated character actors like Stanton, Tracey Walter and Sy Richardson) are pretty much the only things that held the film together for me.
Anyway, what can I say? I didn't really dig it. I wanted to, but I didn't.

What izzit with Orble and film reviews!?
Repo, whilst not a great flick, is still a half decent distraction.
Waching it now you have to take yourself back to the 80's when the whole generation of American 'punk' wannabes were starting to come through.
Harry Dean Stanton's manic slide into paranioa is great viewing, Iggy's title track is great listening.
And remember, always put on your seatbelt.
